Map questions to objectives
List the skills actually taught. For the French example, reading retrieval and present-tense agreement are separate objectives. Ask for at least one question per objective and a short explanation of what each question checks. Supply a curriculum source if a particular programme is required; a grade label alone is not evidence of alignment.
Make the key usable
Ask for the correct answer, acceptable alternatives and an explanation. For open writing, use observable criteria rather than a single mandatory model answer. If marks are needed, state the total and check that the individual marks add up. Avoid awarding points for presentation unless that is an announced criterion.
Review before assigning
Complete the assessment and look for clues that accidentally reveal answers. Check whether multiple-choice questions have more than one defensible option. Separate the teacher key from the student copy. Use short diagnostic results to choose support, not to label a learner.
What the finished resource can look like
A French-language reading and grammar check to identify what to revisit, not to assign a standardized grade.
